This e-book has been designed because of the author’s instructing reports; scholars within the classes got here from numerous disciplines and it was once very tricky to prescribe an appropriate textbook, now not simply because there are not any books on those subject matters, yet simply because they're both too exhaustive or very elementary.  This booklet, consequently, comprises simply correct themes within the basics of the physics of semiconductors and of electrochemistry wanted for realizing the intricacy of the topic of photovoltaic sunlight cells and photoelectrochemical (PEC) sun cells. The ebook presents the fundamental suggestions of semiconductors, p:n junctions, PEC sunlight cells, electrochemistry of semiconductors, and photochromism.

Researchers, engineers and scholars engaged in researching/teaching PEC cells or wisdom of our sunlight, its strength, and its distribution to the earth will locate crucial themes reminiscent of the physics of semiconductors, the electrochemistry of semiconductors, p:n junctions, Schottky junctions, the concept that of Fermi power, and photochromism and its business applications.

"The issues during this publication are defined with transparent representation and essential terminology. It covers either primary and complicated issues in photoelectrochemistry and that i think that the content material awarded during this monograph may be a source within the improvement of either educational and business research".

The excitement created in 1954 was due to the high conversion efficiency of 6 percent of solar energy to electrical energy, which increased to 11 percent 13 14 Physics and Electrochemistry of Semiconductors in one year. Theoretically, it was predicted that a photovoltaic cell could give an efficiency up to 22 percent. In 1959, the first successful Vanguard satellite carried 108 solar photovoltaic chips to power its radio. The cost of a solar cell has been drastically reduced, falling from $1000 per watt to about $100 per watt by 1970, and now it is around $5 per watt.

2 Solar Energy and Its Applications Application of solar energy to generate either thermal or electrical power was considered as early as the fifteenth century. In the fifteenth century bc, solar radiation was used to distill liquid and for drying agricultural products. Archimedes in 212 bc used the sun’s rays to set fire to the ships of the invading Roman fleet. In the seventeenth century, most practical applications of solar energy were developed by Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus (1651–1708), a member of the French National Academy of Sciences.

Zerassky built a solar thermoelectric device by welding two dissimilar metals, zinc antimony alloy and silver-plated alloy. During this period, efforts were made to generate heat by concentrating solar radiation using mirrors and lenses to run an engine. In 1954, Bell Telephone Laboratories constructed a photovoltaic cell. This effect, however, was discovered in selenium by Becquerel in 1839. The excitement created in 1954 was due to the high conversion efficiency of 6 percent of solar energy to electrical energy, which increased to 11 percent 13 14 Physics and Electrochemistry of Semiconductors in one year.
